Ahhhh, it’s finally Saturday!

As a kid, I would always look forward to Saturdays, the way most kids do. Because I knew what was coming. Saturday morning cartoons and pancakes! Now that I’m an adult, I see things the way most adults do.

I still looked forward to Saturdays. But before I knew it, I was knee-deep in cleaning, grocery runs, and everything else that I didn’t get handled during the week. I’d wait for the “right time” to unwind, thinking that I’d slow down once everything else is done. But let’s be honest for a second, everything else is never really done, right?

Well, that’s how I used to approach things until I had an epiphany.

What if my Saturday was more than just another catch-up day?

That’s why I started to make time for a self-care Saturday routine! This is your reminder that you’re allowed to take the time anyway.

Of course there are tasks that still need to get done. I don’t have a magic solution for that. Instead this routine is to help re-orient you’re day so that you lead with you.

And if you feel like you need permission to take some time for yourself…

I grant thee permission!

What Taking a Real Break on Saturday Can Look Like

A Self-Care Saturday doesn’t have to mean a crazy expensive spa getaway. Nor is it doing what looks good according to Instagram standards. I suggest you focus on what feels good for your mind, body, and soul.

That might be sleeping for an extra hour (or two) on the sofa without any guilt. I really do feel bad for people who convince themselves that they don’t need sleep. We all need sleep! Or perhaps it’s getting up early for a solo walk and a homemade breakfast. There’s no “right” way, just make sure it’s your way.

And if you’re the kind of person where your Saturdays are packed with responsibilities, please know that even an hour of focused self-care can make a big difference. This time is simply your chance to check in with yourself and do something that leaves you feeling more whole.

How Slowing Down Helps More Than You Think

When you give yourself time to reset on Saturday, you both pamper yourself and preserve your energy for the long run. Most of us spend the week running on autopilot, juggling responsibilities, and being there for everyone else.

But without proper rest and care, that momentum eventually catches up with you.

Setting aside a day, or even a portion of it, helps interrupt that cycle. A relaxed Saturday softens the pressure of Sunday, and the week ahead. You can ease into the new week with a little more patience for whatever’s next.

Rest and productivity don’t cancel each other out. Slowing down actually boost your productivity. When you take care of your mental and emotional well-being, you focus sharpens, your mood improves, and you have more energy to give to what really matters in your life.
