Most folks roll into Sunday running on fumes. The weekdays are jam-packed and energy’s running low, so by the time Sunday hits, the last thing you want to do is power through more errands or social plans.
And yet…that’s exactly what happens! Grocery runs, piles of laundry that need folding, catching up on emails, yada yada yada.
I used to live like that. I would cram in as much as I could in task-wise on Sunday. And by the time I would crawl into bed for the night, I was exhausted and didn’t even want to think of what was on my plate for Monday morning. It was awful! Knowing that I needed a change, I learned how to overhaul my Sundays!
That’s why I’m now a firm believer that having a Self-Care Sunday routine is worth your time. Instead of cramming in too much, why not press pause?
This way you get to clear your head, and actually give yourself a chance to breathe before Monday shows up again. I find that little time carved out for me (and me alone) can set the tone for my whole week.
It’s not always picture perfect, but it’s way better than how I used to operate.
What Self-Care Sunday Really Looks Like
It’s time for me to clear something up. Self-care isn’t always what you see on social media. Like a long soaking bath with lavender scented candles and a green face mask (though if that helps, go for it).
Really it’s carving out time to take care of yourself, your mind, your body, your energy, in a way that feels supportive, not forced. A Self-Care Sunday routine is your chance to check in and ask, “What do I need today?”
And then listening for the answer. I can't stress this enough.
Maybe you need some quiet time. Maybe you need to move more body. Or perhaps you need to declutter your space, or cook a well-balanced meal.
As you can see there’s no script! So long as what you know what you need when you ask.
Why Make Time for Self-Care Sundays
If you’ve ever started a Monday already exhausted, then you know how important it is to refill your tank before the new week starts.
A solid self-care routine on Sunday is your chance to refill your tank, before it gets empty. You can start the week with a clearer head and a better handle on your mood.
You’ll probably find that you’re more focused, less reactive to stressors, and just feel better overall when you start your week from a place of structure, not mayhem.
And maybe (most importantly), it reinforces something we too often forget. That your well-being deserves attention too. Carving out this time for yourself focuses on the relationship you have with you.
How Self-Care Helps You Feel Like Yourself Again
A Sunday self-care practice gives you permission to slow down and not fill every second with something before Monday slides in.
I like to think of it as a super important meeting that I've scheduled and the only attendee is me. Would I want to be late for a meeting? Would I double book something else during that meeting time? No way!
When you give yourself that space, everything else starts to feel a little more manageable.
You’ll feel more prepared heading to the office, starting the commute or (fill in the blank), and less like you’re scrambling to catch up. You’ll sleep better. Think clearer. Maybe even find yourself in a happy mood come Monday morning!
